AIPL Changes to Editing System - August 2001

Determination of preferred identification

The preferred ID of AI bulls that have more than one ID can now be changed only by deleting the old preferred ID. This change is to prevent unintentional changes in preferred ID. The ID's of AI bulls with more than one ID were reviewed, and the preferred ID changed where the current one did not match the ID on the semen straws. For Holsteins, there was an attempt to harmonize the preferred ID with the Holstein Association so that the same ID would be used for type and yield evaluations to minimize matching problems.

Evaluations and edits for Owner Sampler data

The evaluations of cows with predominantly owner sampler data will now appear on the bull daughter lists. When evaluations including owner sampler data were first distributed in February 1997, the program generating the cow evaluation format (105) was changed, but the program that prepares the bull daughter lists both on the web and for individual studs was not. Until now, cows with owner sampler data were listed but their evaluations were suppressed.

The additional edits on owner sampler records, which include detection of outliers, percent milk shipped, and percent good ID, contained a programming error was detected and corrected. Rejected records are removed from the set of records to be included in the evaluations after they have been extracted from the database. The edit procedures were set up correctly in 1997, but an error introduced in 1998 applied the edits to later lactation records only if the cow's first lactation was rejected.
